Choregraphie Antique, The Dance History Ensemble of Goucher College

Choregraphie Antique, comprised of students, alumni and friends of Goucher College Dance Department, bring history to life through reconstructions of popular dances from the past. From Medieval basse danses and balli, Renaissance galliards, branles and canaries, Baroque minuets and sarabands, Romantic waltzes, polkas, and mazurkas, swinging jitterbugs, disco and hip hop, the ensemble performs favorite dance crazes in historical context with narratives based on careful research.

Established in 1988, Choregraphie Antique has performed its reconstructions in Colonial Williamsburg, Longwoord Gardens, the University of Pennsylvania, the Smithsonian Institute, the Walters Art Gallery, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Maryland Historical Society, Mount Vernon Plantation, Hampton Mansion, Historic St. Mary's City, Brice House, Mount Clare Mansion and many other historic and cultural sites. The ensemble has performed with the Baltimore Symphony, the Peabody Ragtime Ensemble, the Towson University Early Music Ensemble, Musica Antiqua, David and Ginger Hildebrand, Cindy Swiss and Richard Noth.
